Hooked On Fridays: The Zoo

This week we are hooked on the zoo! Abby and I went to the zoo on Tuesday and had a great time.

This was a first for me, to take her somewhere so far by myself. She did really well, except for the 30 minutes of driving around in circles trying to find a parking spot. (kind of like that scene from National Lampoon's European Vacation, when they kept driving around Big Ben)

The place was packed! It costs $11 to park, so I was trying to avoid the lots. However, one lot was full and the other lot had a huge line from each direction waiting to get in. I honestly think I saved more time by driving around! LOL!

We did meet up with my Aunt, cousin Andee, cousin Jackie and her two kids. My Aunt has a membership to the zoo and got Abby and I into the Children's Zoo for free. That was so nice of her!

My cousins and Aunt packed a lunch for the zoo and we were going to as well. However, when I opened the bread to make our sandwiches, I found it to be moldy. So I had to pay $10 for a hot dog kids meal and a soft pretzel with cheese. Oh well, the pretzel was pretty yummy and Abby loved dipping her french fries into my cheese. The only problem is that by the time I stood in line and got our food, they were almost done eating. Oops!

We really had a nice time at the zoo. Abby and I stayed for a few more hours after my family left and even enjoyed a nice Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough Ice Cream scoop. Luckily, everything was fine, but about halfway through the ice cream I realized that it could have traces of tree nuts in it! Abby is majorly allergic to tree nuts and I am always so careful what I feed her. I was so hot and tired, I didn't even think! I did have her Epi-Pen on me, but she had no reaction. Thank goodness!

We will have to go back to the zoo soon. If I pack our lunch and park on the street again, it's a free trip. There is so much to do there, that the 50 minute drive is worth it.

We're pretty close to the Atlanta Zoo so when our kids were small we did a family membership which paid for itself in 2 visits. Anyway, we went a lot and we could go just for an hour and leave before hunger set in.

Sounds like an action-packed day!!

It's been ages since I went to a zoo. I remember there was a camel that spit on my dad!! Maybe that's why we didn't go to zoos very often ;-)

Thanks for checking out my post about Michelle's renderings. I've tried doing a couple of renderings myself -- they didn't look anywhere near as good as Michelle's!!

Have a great weekend :-)

Oh, I love the zoo!! Everytime we visit, I tell my husband I want to go to Africa. He never seems to take me seriously!

OH, I love the zoo! We go to ours (San Diego) often! You are so right - park on the street and definitely pack your food - it's those costs that will bleed your pockets dry at the zoo!
Happy 4th!
