This past Saturday, we out ran a tornado. Luckily, my husband was driving and went through a few red lights just in time, however that did make my pics a little blurry.

This was right outside my window in the backseat:

It was spinning and picking up debris, as it headed over West County Mall.

The National Weather Service did confirm it was a tornado that touched down in Des Peres, MO with winds up to 80 mph.

I found a video of it:  (turn off your sound)

The blue flashes you see caused power outages and there were lots of trees down.  Luckily, there were no injuries reported.

This was pretty freaky, but kind of fun!  I've never seen a tornado in real life and especially wouldn't have thought I'd see one that close to us.  I've lived here 30 years and the sky on Saturday did not look like a sky you would expect a tornado to come from.  It's like it came out of nowhere.

Tornadoes are quite an experience. We went through several when we were living in Kentucky.

I would have been scared out of my mind! I am ridiculously scared of tornadoes...I have seen too many of them up close and personal. Once in HS we were walking from the gym to the cafeteria and saw one forming over the football field!

I would have been too scared to think of snapping pics. I hope I never see one.

We had the same thing happen last summer to us as we drove home from Wisconsin. We pulled over and waited for a few hours and decided we were glad we did when we passed semis that had fallen over from the winds.....
Scary, glad you got through it safely.

Wow, this is so scary! Was Abby in the car? I saw a tornado when I was a kid and we were driving cross country but it was far off in the distance. I can't even imagine being so close to one.

Wow, that is cool but scary. I am glad everyone was alright.

Tornadoes are awesomely scary things.

Wow! We did the same thing this weekend only since we were obliviously singing along to the car tunes we didn't even notice until we got home and saw the weather service reports saying, "TAKE COVER NOW!" and "DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RUN OUTSIDE!" that we were driving right through where it was. Second time we've done that. Guess we need to be more weather weary around here!

I grew up in Colorado and I have to say, I am PETRIFIED of tornados! Just the mention has my palms sweating and curled into fetal position! You would think I had a traumatic experience with one, but no...just a wuss :)

I can't wait to show this to Jamie tonight. He loves to see stuff like this and often tries to find these opportunities himself--he's crazy:-)!

Glad you were all safe though, all jokes aside!

The day my mom passed away we had to follow a tornado all the way from our house to the outskirts of the city where my mom was. I never thought I would ever be a storm chaser. Those things are scary!
