I had purchased a few things at the homeschool convention in March that I wanted to start using, but I have decided to just start them next year.
Math
Abby has been enjoying the Teacher's Helper Mailbox worksheets, so I have been using a lot of those. Most of these are review of previous topics. This past week the worksheets covered: fractions, ordinal numbers, counting by 5's and 10's, patterns and bar graphs.
Reading
Abby has been reading her worksheets to answer the questions. She's also worked on several pages from Explode The Code, Book 3 and a few more Teacher's Helper worksheets.
We also did a few new things this week, a word search:
and an alphabetical order worksheet:
She loved the word search and she did really well with it. One of the first words she found was on a diagonal. As you can see, I wrote the words for the alphabetical order worksheet. We did this one at dinner. I explained how to look at each letter and then the next letter to see what comes first in the alphabet. Abby then told me which word to write next.
Science
We never did get to any science last week.
Social Studies
This past week, Abby did Heritage Studies Lesson 46: Other Gods in the New World. Abby learned the word "idol" and how the Indians had false idols; such as the sun, moon, animals or pieces of wood. She also completed Lesson 47: Religions in the New World. Abby learned that some of the early traders were Roman Catholic and also that their leader is called the pope.
Misc.
On Wednesday, we went on a field trip to Purina Farms. The have an Easter Village with an Easter bunny, cute decorations and animals to pet.

On Friday, we went to my Mom's house to meet up with the cousins to dye 8 dozen Easter eggs. I actually got a decent pic of all of the kids:

Mason, Madalin, Hannah, Matthew, Abby, Lauryn, Isabel, Jacob and Andy
The kids all played so well together. It was a great afternoon!
By later in the evening, a huge storm was developing. Actually two storms, one to the northwest of us and one to the southwest of us. Luckily, we missed both, but you may have seen coverage of the EF-4 tornado that touched down here in St. Louis.
There were 2 tornadoes in the area. The first touched down at a EF-1, west of us. The next tornado touched down at 5 different spots along a 22 mile path, with ratings of EF-2, EF-3 and the EF-4. Lambert Airport was hit by the EF-2. I've seen youtube videos of it hitting the airport and it's insane! There are thousands of buildings destroyed, many people without power, but by the grace of God: no fatalities. If you've seen the pics, it's amazing that no one was killed.
This storm has me really thinking out an emergency plan for us. I need to put together a kit for the basement. I've also decided that we need a tote to throw in my purse, Dave's wallet, our shoes and other important things that we can grab on the way to the basement. Imagine being downstairs and then looking up at the sky? I'm going to work on this kit this week! Of course the next severe storm is already being forecast for Monday evening.
Is anyone here in the St. Louis area? We've sure had a lot of bad storms lately!

Teacher's Helper pages are great, if your curriculum doesn't have tons of busywork in it. I'd rather just do all Teacher's Helper pages.
So when you go to the basement you don't take anything with you or wear any shoes?
That is dumb. (I'm her sister so I can be blatantly honest) You need shoes on because of debris that could be on the floor. You should also have something to cover your head with should there be flying glass and a number of other items such as important meds, your ID, etc. You should also have drinks, snacks, and activities (these are my personal recommendations, LOL)
Well, we usually have our slippers on! LOL! We do have bottled water in the basement and lots of cleaning supplies from my stockpile. LOL! Oh and there's a few jars of peanut butter.
There are plenty of blankets in the basement to cover with. Also, Dave just pushed the old couch to the back wall for us to sit on during a warning. Now we'll be further away from the windows!
Sounds like a perfect week of school, and those kids are adorable...what a great bunch!
I'm so glad everyone is alright. Though we don't have much in the way of tornadoes around here, we're due for an earthquake. I keep thinking I need to be better prepared food-wise in case it's difficult to get to a store.
Sounds like a great week, Jenny! Sierra's required testing is scheduled for next week, and we're both a little nervous :)
when we had tornadoes last week they were telling us to get bike helmets on the kids!! I think next time they are forecasting tornadoes we'll be bringing those inside... my kids LOVE wearing theirs and it would be another source of protection for them!
Glad you all are safe!!
And yeah for summer break coming soon:) We are all needing it here;)
How I wish I was a counselor for homeschool!! We will be in school until mid June! Ugh!!
PS. Thank you for your sweet compliment!
YIKES about your weather. I hope it calms down soon.
Collin LOVES alphabetical order. He has to do it with his weekly vocab and spelling words and it is his favorite activity with the words.
I forgot to write that Heather always cracks me up. You know how Valerie's husband, Mark, always leaves funny comments on her blog (Frugal FAmily FUn)? Heather is like your Mark! I always look for her comments.
I also meant to write that I am so jealous of your school year end date. Reagan finishes preschool May 26th, but the boys are in school until June 21!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always think the Teacher's Helper worksheets Abby does look so fun to learn with. Joe would really like those.
OK, LOL about Heather's comment! She is the best Jenny. What an awesome sister you have! It is storming here badly as I type this and the power is flickering. I hope y'all have had better weather this week!
You know I loved your pictures from Purina Farms. That looks like such a fun place to visit.
You got a great picture of all the kids/cousins too! You are blessed to have cousins for Abby. My kids have zero cousins :(.
Hope you've had a great week Jenny!
